Eugènia Negredo completed the specialty of Internal Medicine at the Sant Pau Hospital, Barcelona, in 1998. She received her Ph.D. in Medicine from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, in 2002. Since 1999, Dr. Negredo works as a physician in the HIV Unit of Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital in Barcelona, and she leads the research group focused on the epidemiology, pathogenesis and treatment of different HIV- and antiretroviral-related complications. She is also Associate Professor of Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and Universitat de Vic.

Pedro Cahn has been Scientific Director of Fundación Huésped since 1989 and former President of the International AIDS Society (IAS) for the period 2006-2008. Former Head and current Consultant of the Infectology Division of the Juan A. Fernández Hospital in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He is also Full Professor of the Department of Medicine, Infectology Orientation, of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Buenos Aires. Dr. Cahn has been involved in international HIV/AIDS conferences and working groups since 1989, including the 1st Conference on Pathogenesis and Treatment of IAS in Argentina and the XVII International AIDS Conference in Mexico, which he chaired. Likewise, on repeated occasions, he has acted as an advisor to the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNAIDS. He is an Illustrious Citizen of the City of Buenos Aires and received the honorable mention "Senator Domingo F. Sarmiento" by the Senate of the Nation (2014).

Dr. Clotet received his MD (1976) and his PhD (1981), with a thesis on autoimmune diseases, from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). That same year, his internship as an Internal Medicine specialist at the Vall d’Hebron University Hospital in Barcelona coincided with the first AIDS case reported in Spain. This case was the catalyst for a career dedicated to this serious disease, first as head of the HIV Unit of the Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital in Badalona (1987-2015) and then as founder and president of the Fight against AIDS Foundation (1992), which is now named as Fight Infections Foundation.

Dr. Clotet soon saw the need to go a step beyond patient care to conduct research aimed at eradicating AIDS. In 1995, with the support of “la Caixa” and the Department of Health of the Generalitat of Catalonia, he founded the IrsiCaixa AIDS Research Institute, which he still heads.  In addition, Dr. Clotet is also the clinical director of Infectious Diseases at the Metropolitana Nord area of the Catalan Institute of Health, scientific advisor to two IrsiCaixa spin-offs: Aelix Therapeutics SL and AlbaJuna Therapeutics SL and director of the Chair of AIDS and Related Diseases at the Universitat de Vic (UVic).

He has published more than 1000 papers in high impact international journals and his contributions to research have been recognized with the Josep Trueta medal to Sanitary Merit and the ‘Premi Nacional de Recerca’, among other awards.

Professor Patrick (Paddy) Mallon is Professor of Microbial Diseases in the UCD School of Medicine and a Consultant in Infectious Diseases in St Vincent's University Hospital in Dublin. He graduated in Medicine from Queen's University Belfast, Northern Ireland and undertook subsequent clinical training in infectious disease medicine in Sydney, Australia where he completed a PhD in long-term toxicities in HIV. Professor Mallon returned to Ireland in 2007 and has led the development of an active research programme in Infectious Diseases. In 2008 he established the HIV Molecular Research Group, which focuses on translational research into toxicities of antiretroviral therapy, strategies to increase population HIV testing and studies aimed at better understanding immune responses to antiretroviral treatment. Professor Mallon is a past-president of the Infectious Diseases Society of Ireland, a regional representative for the European AIDS Clinical Society and the incoming Chair of the co-morbidities Guidelines Panel of the European AIDS Clinical Society. Professor Mallon is also the Director of the Wellcome-Health Research Board Irish Clinical Academic Training Programme.

Andrea Cossarizza took the degree in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Padua, then he did his PhD in Oncology and the Specialization in Clinical Pathology. In 1998 he became Associate Professor of General Pathology and Immunology at the University of Modena, and in 2010 was appointed Full Professor. He has published >420 papers, and he is a renown expert in the aging of the immune system.

Dr. Matias-Guiu obtained his MD (2008) and PhD (2013) from the University Complutense of Madrid. He completed his internship in Neurology at the Hospital Clinico San Carlos (2009-2013). He conducted his PhD in functional neuroimaging in neurodegenerative disorders. He obtained the Extraordinary Award from the University Complutense and the Doctorate Award from the Spanish Royal National Academy of Medicine. He leads the Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology Unit from the Department of Neurology of the Hospital Clinico San Carlos since 2013. He has been recognized as Distinguished Faculty Member of the University of Miami (Center for Cognitive Neurosciences and Aging).

Dr. Matias-Guiu has authored more than 175 papers. This research has received more than 3000 citations (H-index 35). His research has been focused in cognitive disorders, especially on the development and validation for cognitive assessment, neuroimaging findings, and non-invasive brain stimulation. In the last few years, Dr Matias-Guiu has studied cognitive dysfunction and fatigue of post-COVID syndrome, their neuroimaging correlates and their improvement using brain stimulation.

Dr Matias-Guiu is the Coordinator of the Neuroimaging Group of the Spanish Society of Neurology since 2019, and a Member of the Neuroimaging Panel of the European Academy of Neurology. He is Associate Editor of Neurologia, BMC Neurology, Journal of Alzheimer’s disease, and Neurology Perspectives.

Jose A. Muñoz-Moreno, PhD (he/his) is clinical and health psychologist at the Infectious Diseases Department of the Hospital Universitari Germans Trias i Pujol and an associate professor at the Psychology and Education Sciences Faculty of the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC).

José earned his PhD in Neurosciences from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). He leads he "Brain Function, Emotion, and Behaviour" research group at the Fundació Lluita contra la SIDA (FLS). His main focus is on the study of neurocognitive and emotional disorders in infectious diseases, particularly HIV and, recently, COVID-19 infections.

Marta Massanella graduated in Biology at the University Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona) and completed her PhD in Biomedicine at IrsiCaixa under the supervision of Dr. Julià Blanco in 2012. During her PhD, she characterized the immunodiscordant response to ART in HIV-treated individuals and she was involved in several ART-intensification studies. Later on, she joined the laboratory of Dr. Douglas Richman at the University of California San Diego as a post-doctoral fellow, where she developed several assays to quantify the size of the HIV reservoir.

In 2015, she joined Dr. Nicolas Chomont´s laboratory to carry on her studies on the HIV reservoir in the CR-CHUM (Montreal, Canada). Her studies focused on the characterization of different CD4 T-cell subsets in the maintenance of the HIV reservoir. She was also involved in several clinical projects to determine the influence of timing of ART initiation on the establishment and persistence of the HIV reservoir in adults and the paediatric population.

In 2020, she pursued her research as principal investigator at IrsiCaixa to understand the principal mechanisms that contribute to the particular and accelerated immunoaging in the HIV-infected ART-treated population.

Catia Marzolini obtained a degree in Pharmacy followed by a PhD in Clinical Pharmacology at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland. She completed a post-doctoral fellowship within the Division of Clinical Pharmacology at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, USA.

Catia Marzolini is an Associate Professor at the University Hospital of Basel. Her main research interest is the pharmacology of antiretroviral drugs with a focus on drug-drug interactions, pharmacokinetics in special populations and prescribing issues in elderly people living with HIV. She has authored/co-authored more than 130 publications. Catia Marzolini is also the scientific lead of the University of Liverpool HIV and COVID-19 drug interactions websites. She serves on the European AIDS Clinical Society (EACS) guidelines committee where she co-chairs the drug-drug interaction section and is a member of the scientific board of the Swiss HIV Cohort Study.

Dr Carmina R. Fumaz, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist at the Infectious Diseases Department of the Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital in Badalona, Spain. She has published research of the impact of HIV infection and antiretroviral treatments on patients' emotional well-being and quality of life. Her research also includes the study of aging in people living with HIV infection and the psychological processes associated. Dr Fumaz is a counselor member of the National AIDS Plan of the Spanish government and of several national HIV scientific societies.

Dr. Sereti is the Chief of the HIV Pathogenesis Section in the Laboratory of Immunoregulation at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). She received her Medical Degree at the National University of Athens in Greece and did her Internal Medicine residency and Chief residency at Northwestern University in Chicago. She completed an MHS from Duke University and her Infectious Diseases fellowship at NIAID and stayed at NIAID as clinical investigator receiving tenure in 2015. Her group focuses on studies of HIV-associated inflammation and Idiopathic CD4 lymphopenia along with some work on COVID pathogenesis, in both the clinic and the laboratory. She is a physician scientist who has conducted multiple clinical trials and has published more than 200 peer reviewed papers. Dr Sereti is currently an ELAM fellow and is one of the upcoming Associate Editors of the Journal of Infectious Diseases on her personal time. She is also a member of the Executive committee of the NIH Oxford-Cambridge Scholars program. She is passionate about translational research with excellence in patient care, mentorship, and promotion of women in biomedical sciences.

Dr. Alberto Lleó is the director of Neurology Department at the Hospital Sant Pau (Barcelona). Dr. Lleó completed his residence in Neurology in 2000 at the Hospital Sant Pau and his PhD in genetics of Alzheimer’s disease at the hospital Clínic (Barcelona). He also completed a clinical fellowship in Memory and Movement disorders at the Massachusetts General Hospital (Boston) between 2022 and 2004. In 2005, he joined the staff in the Neurology Department at the Hospital Sant Pau, and he was the director of the Memory Unit until 2022, when he was appointed chair of the department. Dr. Lleó has dedicated his career to the field of Alzheimer’s disease and related neurodegenerative diseases. In addition to his clinical duties, he has been conducting translational research. He has directed national and international projects and has published more than 350 publications in high impact journals, such as Neuron, Nature Medicine, Nat Rev Neurology, Lancet, and Brain among others. His main lines of research are the molecular basis of neurodegenerative diseases and biomarkers. These lines have yielded a licensed patent and currently some of these markers are being investigated for early diagnosis or prognosis. Dr. Lleó is also leading a research line in digital neuropathology based on different superresolution microscopy techniques applied to the study of human brain. These unique tools have been instrumental to uncover the presence of synaptic aggregates in Alzheimer’s disease and dementia with Lewy bodies. Dr. Lleó is one of the national coordinators of CIBERNED and serves as member of the editorial board of Neurology and Brain Communications.

Cristina Malagelada Grau was born in Girona on January 9, 1976. She obtained her degree and Ph.D. in Biochemistry at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. During her thesis, she studied the molecular mechanisms that lead to neuronal apoptotic cell death in cerebral ischemia. In 2003, she started her first postdoctoral stay in the group of Dr. Nikolaos Robakis in the Department of Psychiatry at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City (USA) studying molecular mechanisms involved in Alzheimer’s disease. In 2004, she started her second postdoctoral stay at Columbia University in New York in the group of Dr. Lloyd A. Greene, studying the role of a protein called RTP801/REDD1, in neuronal cell death in cellular and animal models of Parkinson's disease (PD). She described that RTP801/REDD1 was proapoptotic in neurons by inactivating both mTOR and Akt signaling in PD models. In 2010 she came back to Barcelona with a Ramon y Cajal contract from the Spanish Ministry of Economy to establish her laboratory at the Faculty of Medicine Campus Clínic of the University of Barcelona.

In 2017, she became an Associate professor of Biochemistry at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (Campus Clínic) of the University of Barcelona. She extended her studies of the mTOR pathway to Huntington’s disease, neurogenesis, and neuroinflammation associated with Alzheimer’s disease.
