Roger Paredes, MD, PhD, is the Head of the Infectious Diseases Service at Hospital Universitari Germans Trias i Pujol, Head of the Microbial Genomics Group at the IrsiCaixa AIDS Research Institute, Badalona, Spain.

Roger Paredes obtained an MD, PhD degree in Medicine and Surgery from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). He specialised in HIV resistance at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston and Harvard Medical School. His team has demonstrated the clinical utility of HIV-1 deep sequencing in both high- and low-income countries.

Marta Hernández-Meneses is an infectious diseases assistant at Hospital Clinic Barcelona, focusing on cardiovascular infections, endocarditis, intracardiac electronic devices, and mechanical support infections. On January 2018, she obtained a Rio Hortega Grant from Carlos III Health Institute, Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, Government of Spain, to continue her research studies and the Ph.D. program. She also won a MAES grant for international observership at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. Her research on cardiac device infections and infective endocarditis is also based on in vitro and in vivo models of experimental infective endocarditis. She currently works as an associate professor at the University of Barcelona.

Dr. Vila is the Head of the Clinical Microbiology Department of the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona, ​​Professor of the School of Medicine of the University of Barcelona and Research Professor at the Institute of Global Health (ISGlobal) of Barcelona, Spain. In addition, he leads the Initiative on Antibiotic Resistance of the Barcelona Institute of Global Health (ISGlobal). His main field of research is the development of new antibiotics against multi-drug resistant bacteria and molecular tools for the rapid diagnosis of infectious diseases. Dr. Vila was the program director of the Congress of the European Society for Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID) from 2009 to 2014 and member of the ICAAC Scientific Committee for 4 years. He was president of the Spanish Society of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology (SEIMC) (2019-2021). He has published 483 articles in peer-reviewed journals (H-Index of 88 and 31.046 citations). He has been the principal investigator of 11 competitive European projects in the FP7, H2020, EIT-Health and IMI calls. In addition to 12 national projects. He has three patented molecules.
