Dr. José M. Miró is Senior Consultant of Infectious Diseases at the Hospital Clinic – IDIBAPS of Barcelona, Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Barcelona, and Director of the Master on AIDS of the University of Barcelona.
His research fields are infective endocarditis and HIV/AIDS. He is evaluating new antibiotics for the treatment of endocarditis caused by multi-drug resistant Gram positive bacteria and is doing epidemiological and prognostic studies with Spanish (GAMES) and International (ICE) cohorts. He is also conducting clinical trials on Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcal bacteremia/endocarditis. In HIV/AIDS his research is focused on epidemiological studies in HIV cohorts, primary HIV-1 infection, tuberculosis and other opportunistic Infections, clinical trials in advanced patients and solid organ transplantation in HIV-1 infected patients.
Dr. Miro is a researcher of EuroSIDA, COHERE, ART-CC and Euro-TB, he is co-chair of the Catalonian and Balearic Islands PISCIS cohort, co-chair of the Barcelona Site of the Tuberculosis Trials Consortium of the CDC (Atlanta, GA) and member of the expert panels on the Spanish ART Guidelines and the Spanish (GESIDA), European (EACS) and American (NIH, CDC, IDSA) opportunistic infections panels and the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and the American Heart Association (AHA) infective endocarditis panels.
He was President of the “Spanish Working Group on AIDS” (GESIDA) from 1998 to 1999; the Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology Society of Catalonia (SCMIMC) from 2005 to 2007; and the Spanish Society of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology Society (SEIMC) from 2013 to 2015. He was HIV/AIDS Editor of the Spanish Journal of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology (2002-14). He has published more than 690 articles in peer-review journals (h-index 61).
