Daniel Podzamczer, MD, PhD, is the Head of the HIV and STI Unit of the Infectious Disease Department at the Hospital Universitari de Bellvitge, in L’Hospitrtalet (Barcelona), beginning with the management of HIV-infected patients in 1985. He received his MD at the University of Buenos Aires (Argentina) and his PhD at the University of Barcelona, Spain. He made the Residence in Internal Medicine at the Hospital Universitari de Bellvitge, was Coordinator of the Drug Abuse Unit during two years, staff of the Infectious Disease Service and Chief of the AIDS Unit -now HIV and STI Unit- (current position), all these activities at the same Hospital. His main research area are: Antiretroviral therapy (efficacy, metabolic complications, lipodystrophy); ARV concentrations and viral activity in reservoirs (CNS and genital/rectal fluids, AIDS related complications: opportunistic infections and Kaposi’s sarcoma and non-AIDS comorbidities. Chairman of the Program of Clinical Trials of the Spanish Research Network (RIS). Member of Expert Panels for Recommendations of Prevention and Treatment of Opportunistic Infections (NIH/CDC/IDSA), Antiretroviral Threrapy (GESIDA, Spain), Neurocognitive Disorders (GESIDA, Spain). Co-author of more than 280 publications in peer-review Journals (including N Engl J Med, Ann Intern Med, J Infect Dis, Clin Infect Dis, AIDS, JAIDS, etc). Editor of several books regarding AIDS complications and antiretroviral therapy. Editorial scientific board of several Internal Medicine, Infectious Disease and HIV/AIDS Journals. Peer-reviewer of papers for Journals such as Lancet, Lancet Infectious Diseases, Lancet HIV, Clin Infect Dis, J Antimicrob Chemother, BMC Infect Dis, HIV Med, Antiviral Ther, AIDS Res Human Retrovir among others.
